A fundraiser with a difference took place on Wednesday 25th October 2017 at the Institute of Technology Tralee Training Restaurant. The Event was kindly sponsored by IT Tralee and the food was prepared and served by students of the Minor Award in Culinary Arts in the kitchen and the Higher Certificate in Hotel Operations provided excellent service on the night. The Kitchen team was led by Chef Lecturer Mark Murphy and the Front of house team led by Lecturer Ronan Doyle. 

Mike O Connor from Fenit RNLI said “The dinner was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. The meal was absolutely delicious, superbly presented. I spoke to a lot of people on the night and all said that it ranked with the best meals they ever had. The dining room was beautifully and tastefully decorated, the students were so welcoming from the moment people entered the door and were so pleasant and helpful throughout the evening.”

He also added “As a fundraising activity it was a huge success and raised vital funds for Fenit RNLI. The lifeboat almost totally depends on voluntary contributions and this event has raised over €3150 for Fenit Lifeboats.

The ITT has a long standing fondness for the Fenit RNLI due to the contribution made to both institutions by the late Fr. Gearóid O’ Donnchadha.

IT Tralee was delighted to host the event in support of the Fenit RNLI volunteer crew members who are willing to drop everything to go and save lives at sea when their pagers beep, we are glad that we were able to give something back and instill in our students a real sense of community.

Key facts about the RNLI

The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and has more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,200 lives.
